New York Archival/Historical Resources

1890 House of Cortland
The last Wickwire to live at 37 Tompkins Street Marian Wickwire O’Connor died at home in 1973. The Wickwire Residence was put up for auction and the remaining contents of the Wickwire family were cataloged and sold at auction. A group of Cortland County leaders including members of the Wickwire family campaigned and secured the house to become a museum in 1975.
Cornell University Archives
Currently, the Archives collects and preserves records of historical, legal, fiscal, and/or administrative value to Cornell University. Holdings include official records and reports of the university, its officers, and component parts; private papers of faculty, students, staff, and alumni; official and student publications; maps and architectural records; audiovisual materials including still photographs and negatives, motion picture film, oral history interviews, and audio and video tapes; and artifacts and ephemera documenting Cornell's history.
Cortland County Historical Society
The Cortland County Historical Society is located in the James Suggett House, built in 1882. The Historical Society was established in 1925. The Kellogg Memorial Research Center opens its irreplaceable archive of diaries, manuscripts, maps, photographs and ephemera to researchers and genealogists. Professional staff aids researchers in navigating public and private resources including indexed federal and state census records, vital statistics, cemetery and surname files and its extensive clipping files.

Digital Commons at Cortland
The College Archives publishes materials on Digital Commons to make them accessible to researchers. These materials include both images and documents on various categories. Information that is currently online includes Didascaleion (yearbook), college presidents, college buildings, anniversaries of the college, commencement, student newspapers, and theses.
Digital Repository (SUNY DSpace)
In 2005, the SUNY Office of Library and Information Services (OLIS) established a institutional repository using the Dspace software. Institutional repositories are digital archives used to collect, manage, maintain and disseminate the intellectual output associated with institutions such as SUNY. The repository contains article pre-prints, article post-prints, other working papers, electronic journals, visual resources, theses, dissertations, resources in other data formats, etc.

History Primary Resources Research Guide
Primary sources refer to documents or other items that provide first-hand, eyewitness accounts of events. They are created by witnesses or recorders who experienced the events or conditions being documented. Often these sources are created at the time when the events or conditions are occurring, but primary sources can also include autobiographies, memoirs, and oral histories recorded later. Primary sources are characterized by their content, regardless of whether they are available in original format, in microfilm/microfiche, in digital format, or in published format.

New York Heritage is a research portal for students, educators, historians, genealogists, and anyone else who is interested in learning more about the people, places and institutions of New York State. The site provides free access to more than 170 distinct digital collections, totaling hundreds of thousands of items. The collections in New York Heritage represent a broad range of historical, scholarly, and cultural materials held in libraries, museums, and archives throughout the state. Collection items include photographs, letters, diaries, directories, maps, newspapers, books, and more.
New York Historical Newspapers
The NYS Historic Newspapers project provides free online access to a wide range of newspapers chosen to reflect New York's unique history.
New York Public Library Archives
rchives are the records created by people and organizations as they lived and worked. Collections can range in size from a single letter or diary to thousands of boxes of institutional records. They can contain drafts of literary works, financial records, meeting minutes, reports, memorabilia, as well as sound recordings, videos, film, databases, and software.
New York State Archives
The New York State Archives' Digital Collections provides access to photographs, textual records, artifacts, government documents, manuscripts, and other materials. Most items come from the holdings of the New York State Archives, but this collection also includes material from the New York State Museum, State Library, and project partners across New York State.
SUNY Binghampton Archives
The book collection consists primarily of North American editions published prior to 1850, British imprints prior to 1800, and European imprints prior to 1750. Unique archival materials and manuscripts are also kept in Special Collections. Finally, Special Collections houses certain non-paper materials: selected sound recordings, films, slides, and regalia.
