1. Desk Duty 101: Helping, Tracking, and Sharing
- Greet everyone, ask them to sign in, and let them know to ask you if they need help
- Track equipment use on paper form
- Sit at the Maker Tech desk when not helping a visitor
- If you don’t know how to help a visitor, email makerspace@cortland.edu with the visitor’s name and email and a short description of the problem. The Emerging Technologies Librarian will contact them ASAP.
- Ask users if you can take a picture of their work to share on the libguide and socials then email to makerspace@cortland.edu
2. What We Expect While You're on the Clock
- No headphones or earbuds allowed while working.
- You CAN put music on one of the computers or hook up to the big display screen. Just make sure it’s not so loud that you can hear it outside of the room.
- Check your email at least once a day and respond as quickly as possible.
- Complete Makerspace tasks before doing homework.
3. Shift Swaps and Getting Paid on Time
- If you can’t make a scheduled shift, try to find coverage first. If no one else can take your shift, tell your supervisor.
- Complete your timesheet promptly.
4. Equipment Use
- Supplies are free for students to use for personal projects. If they are making something to sell or are making items for a group, they must bring their own supplies. Example: If a club is making t-shirts for all its members, they should bring their own vinyl. They can talk to the Emerging Technologies Librarian or email makerspace@cortland.edu for purchasing recommendations.
- The printer is only for use with Makerspace equipment (cricut, button maker etc.)
- Email makerspace@cortland.edu when you notice supplies getting low.
