Librarian and Instructor Absences
- If CPN instructor will be absent: CPN instructors should notify their librarian partner as early as possible. CPN instructors will decide if they would like to reschedule the class OR students can do an alternative assignment. Student attendance is critical and we have noticed that even in classes with excellent rapport with the instructor, attendance is hugely impacted – with up to half of the students not in attendance - when the professor is not present.
- If librarian will be absent: The Information Literacy/Instruction Coordinator will try to find a substitute to teach the class and notify the CPN instructor as early as possible either way. If a substitute cannot be arranged, the CPN instructor can decide either to reschedule class OR students could still meet in the planned classroom and work on the alternative assignment.
- If working on the alternative assignment in class, students should plan to bring headphones or check them out from Circulation Help at the start of class (if meeting in the library).
- The assignment must be completed by the end of classes or students will receive an Incomplete for CPN 101.
Student Absences
Attendance of both CLIP classes is mandatory for all students in CPN 101/103. In order to receive a passing grade for CPN 101/103, students who miss one or both CLIP classes must either:
- Complete the Alternative Assignment at https://forms.office.com/r/S1PiACYUS7, or
- Make a research appointment
Alternatively, students can also attend a CLIP session with another CPN class; they must contact the professor of the class they wish to attend for prior permission in order to do so.
CLIP appointments will be tailored to a students’ individual research needs for their CPN assignment, and when possible, be provided by the librarian who taught the class in which the student is enrolled. Students must sign up in advance; drop-ins cannot be accepted due to the scale of the program. Drop-ins at the Research Help Desk without a prior appointment cannot be used as a CLIP make-up. Students who have already completed the research inquiry assignment should not sign up for an appointment, as the information will be not directly applicable or relevant; these students should instead be directed to complete the alternative assignment.
