AAS 100: TILLOTSON Intro to African American Studies Fall 2024

How Do I Know if Articles Are Scholarly or Peer-Reviewed?

You must find scholarly sources for your research paper, including scholarly digital sources.  Books from the library will usually be scholarly (but you can check with your professor or a librarian if you're not sure).  For a refresher on identifying whether an article is scholarly or not, please view the video below.

Peer Review and ONESearch

Scholarly journals undergo a process of peer-review. Because they are written by experts for other experts, the "peers" would be other experts in the discipline. The process is rigorous and ensures that the authors' methodology is sound and the article contributes meaningful information to the field.

In ONESearch, use Refine Results to limit your results. Click the Peer-Reviewed Journals filter (under Availability) for scholarly articles.
