AAS 100: TILLOTSON Intro to African American Studies

Let's dig in: Pro Tips for ONESearch

Once you've selected a topic, ONESearch is a great place to start your research:  it's like Google for our library resources.  In ONESearch you are searching:

  • Books, journals, curriculum materials, and other physical items found in the Library

  • Most of the library's online journal, newspaper, and other publication content

  • The library's ebooks and streaming videos subscriptions

  • The Memorial Library Delta Collection and Digital Archives (coming soon)

You are also searching ...

  • Books, publications, curriculum materials, and other physical items found in other SUNY Libraries

  • ExLibris Central Discovery Index which includes content that you can request (for free!) via Interlibrary Loan

To Begin:  ONESearch can be searched from the library tab of myRedDragon.  Start a Basic Search by entering your search term/s in the search box and clicking on the magnifying glass icon.

To Find Books:  When you're working on your research paper, you will need to find two books.  To narrow your search results to books, click the drop-down menu above and change it from (Almost Everything) to Library Catalog.

Advanced ONESearch

The Advanced Search box is typically used when you want to incorporate additional criteria in your searches.  To use it, at the top of the page next to the main search box, click on "Advanced Search"

This will bring up a pop up menu allowing you to add multiple terms to your search.  As you can see from the image below, you can also access the Library Catalog filter from here if you want to look for books and ebooks.  If you don't find any suitable books in the Library Catalog, try searching the SUNY Catalog (to find books within the SUNY System) or even WorldCat (to find books from all over the world!).  You can't currently borrow ebooks from other libraries, but you can click to submit an interlibrary loan request for books you find from other libraries.  Be sure to allow up to two weeks for physical items, as Covid has increased processing times for many libraries and mail carriers.  Interlibrary loan is free for you, and items can be picked up from The Help Center in the lobby of the library after they arrive.
