TMC Nonfiction+

The TMC contains many non-book materials, which you can check out just like books and bring to your classroom!

• The TMC Nonfiction+ area has many non-book items on its shelves, such as: manipulatives, kits, toys, games, musical instruments, learning resources, storytelling aids... and more!
• You can also find non-book materials in other areas of the TMC, such as: puppets, literacy packs, flannel board kits, jackdaws, and STEM Kits.

• Arrangement: By Subject (Library of Congress Call Number System)
• Example: TMC [LC Call Number]

• TMC Nonfiction+: Hands-On Items: includes all toys, kits, games, realia, etc.
• TMC Nonfiction+ Games: games only: includes educational (learning centers, etc) and popular games (candyland, etc)
• TMC Nonfiction+ STEM Kits: includes kits and realia for math, science, technology and engineering, with a focus on building and electronics, on a variety of levels

Searching and Locating Tips:

• Search by Keyword: for relevant terms as keywords: "toys", "kit", "game", etc
  • Pair the above search terms with a topic you'd like to explore: animals, vegetables, etc.
• Use Filters: Run a search for a topic.
  • In the "Refine Results" column, look for "Source Types" and expand that category.
  • Click on the checkboxes next to "Realia" and "Kits."
  • Click on the "Apply Filters" button to run the search for non-book items.
