In here, you'll find materials used in the library session along with supplemental content to help you with your research project.

Starting Task:

  • Write down your main topic/research factor.
  • Individually: Write down what you know about it for now: at least 3 (or more) ideas!

What's the Point?

MAIN TAKEAWAY: You will be able to apply research strategies in order to locate and evaluate sources for your disability research assignment.

Students will be able to understand and use basic research techniques in order to locate information.

After this session, you'll be able to:

  • Analyze your research topics or questions for key concepts, and break them down into a map or list of divergent terms in order to strategically search
  • Apply the features of various search tools (eg. ONESearch, subject databases) to locate materials for your research projects
  • Apply various search strategies, in order to improve your results

Students will be able to evaluate information, in order to select the best resources for their information needs.

After this session, you'll be able to:

  • Evaluate the characteristics of sources (peer review, etc) in order to determine their relevance to your research
  • Apply your knowledge of Education discipline-specific language (appropriate terminology for disabilities) to your source evaluations, in order to make effective selections for your research projects

Students will recognize the ethical dimensions of information use, creation, and dissemination in order to responsibly create content.

  • After this session, you'll be able to determine why it's important to carefully evaluate research on students with disabilities.
