Streaming Video

How to locate, access, and link to videos at SUNY Cortland.

Films FAQ's

What films are currently licensed through the library's streaming service and video databases?

Search our catalog for currently licensed videos, or see our list of streaming video databases.

Can a professor have a film digitized for our collection?  Yes if it is required for a course and in DVD format.  Where possible, we will first try to find the item through our streaming vendors who will manage accessibility concerns.  VHS is no longer supported.  Processing time is two weeks after formally donating the video to the library. It is streamed so that everyone with myRedDragon access can view it. If you've created original content contact The Help Center for access to the Yuja (streaming) server.

What happens to the video hard copies after they have been digitized?  They are put in storage.

Can more than one person stream a video at one time?  Yes.

Can I check out DVDs?  No, physical DVDs cannot be checked out.

My copy is in very bad shape.  Will the library be able to stream it? Maybe. The library will stream video content from the best copy available. If this doesn't work, your library liaison can help identify alternative video content for your course. If you do not know who your liaison is, contact The Help Center or Research Help.

In the future, how will I be able to purchase video content for my course? Please fill out the form for video requests.

Who should I contact if I have a problem viewing video content?  Please contact The Help Center at x2500 or email THC@cortland.edu

Can I stream videos for programs, film festivals, and off campus events? Unfortunately not due to copyright restrictions.

How do I donate my content to the library?  Please use the Donate Items to the Library form. You can send it through campus mail to Sue Slivan, Technical Services Librarian.  Please include the following information:  Your name and department; whether it is personally purchased or purchased with departmental funds; what courses and semesters you use the videos. If you have any questions on video requests, faculty and departmental staff may contact sue.slivan@cortland.edu.
