eBooks @ Memorial Library

Ebook ILL Pilot Project (beginning Jan 2022)

SUNY Cortland’s Memorial Library is participating in a limited trial allowing users to borrow eBooks from other SUNY campuses for two weeks at a time. If an eBook book you are requesting is available, you'll receive an email with a link to the book within 2 business days from SUNY Library Services info@slcny.libanswers.com. Follow the link to eBook Central platform, where you have access to the book for the length of the loan. Save the e-mail until your loan is completed as that is the only place to get the link.

Borrowers have a nearly complete Reader experience. They are blocked from annotations, bookmarks, bookshelf, highlighting and navigating the rest of the Lending Library’s site, but have access to citation and language settings.

If an eBook is available for Full Download, it will be downloaded based on how many days remain in the 2 week loan period. Unfortunately, an e-book cannot be downloaded if the loan expires in less than 24 hours. Borrowers can still use the book in the Reader.

Requesting Ebook ILL items using ONESearch

Ebooks that are available for loan from other SUNY campuses will show up as available in the catalog, just like other Ebooks.

When you click on the book to go into the full details, under the heading of full text availability, you will see the request button.

Ebook Request Access button

This will open a new browser tab for a form where you will need to enter your name, campus and email address. The basic book information will be populated for you. There is an optional note field as well.

When SUNY processes your request (Monday thru Friday 9 am to 5 pm), generally within two business days, you will receive an email with a link and instructions on how to access the item.  Any questions or issues with using your loan should be done by replying to that email.
