Instruction session possibilities for Academic Success:
Library Tab: A basic introduction to what we have at Memorial Library
Catalog: Finding books and other materials in the Library's catalog. These can be linked to themes of academic success, OR discipline-specific. Students could also get a chance to explore the library by finding books they search for in the stacks.
Databases: Basic introduction to finding databases and articles, a skill which will help them be successful in their research!
Videos: Searching our catalog and video databases for streaming videos. SEE BELOW FOR EXAMPLES - open web examples and in our catalog!
Research guides: An in depth look at the guides by Subject area and how to use them. Students can take a closer look at the resources for their own major or area of interest!
Research basics: Getting started, brainstorming key words, the beginning to effective searching
Evaluating resources: Whether online or in print, it's important to think critically about resources. Students can find out the criteria to look for when they want to use a source of information.
Interlibrary loan: If we don't have it, there's a library somewhere out there that does! ILL is a valuable resource that gives students access to materials beyond Memorial Library. Students will set up their accounts and learn how to request items.
Database accounts: Students will learn how to set up an account within a database, where they can save items to folders and more.
Citation basics: Finding citation resources in the research guides- online and in print, and how to quickly get citations from databases. (Note: this is not a course on
Atomic Learning: Finding and using the video tutorials available on a variety of software products
