Tools to Equip: Research Guides and Databases

Research Guides

Here's an example of a relevant Research Guide: FSA Research Guide

Accessing a Research Guide:

1) First, click on the Library tab in myRedDragon:

Arrow pointing to Library tab in myRedDragon

2) Next, select "Research Guides" as shown below:

Arrow pointing to Research Guides in Library section of myRedDragon.

3) A drop-down menu appears to pick a guide by subject. Then click "Go". This example demonstrates looking for a guide related to Education:

Shows selection of Education under "Search for guides pertaining to a selected subject".

ONESearch vs. Subject Databases

Where you shop online depends on what you need! For example:

  • Scenario 1: You're looking for a gift for a friend who likes cats. You just want to browse around broadly in general. You might choose Amazon in that case.
  • Scenario 2: You're looking for cat food for an elder cat with a kidney problem. You have a very specific need this time! Since Amazon has SO MUCH, you might find what you want on there, or you much choose a more specialized pet-supply source, such as Chewy.

Databases are similar. Think of ONESearch like Amazon and the subject databases like specialized shopping sites. You can find links to ONESearch or subject databases from MyRedDragon, and the FSA Research Guide.
