Biology Research Guide

Searching strategies: Articles

  • Search via keywords
  •  Need help finding better search terms? Read the abstract of a peer-reviewed article on your topic and see what vocabulary they use. You might also explore the "Dictionaries and Encyclopedias" section of this guide
  • Use quotes for exact phrases (ex: "nucleic acid inhibitors")
  •  Use the Advanced Search function in ONESearch or other databases, to limit your results. Make sure to limit your searches to peer-reviewed articles, if applicable!
  •  Once you identify a useful article, look at the subject terms listed in the description. Click on one to find other works on the same topic.
  • If you find an article that isn't available in full text, click through to order through Interlibrary Loan (ILL)--it will usually arrive within a few days.
