COR 101 - Diversity: Instruction

Library Instruction

Topics for COR 101 library instruction could include:

  • Navigating the library tab
  • The research process
  • Locating resources, including how to find books, journals, databases, and research guides

Have a librarian come to your class to show how to search for videos at SUNY Cortland!

Please contact Sara Quimby if you would like to schedule a class visit to the library for students to watch a diversity video (like one of the TED talks below) and learn how to search for their own videos using library resources.  They will learn valuable and transferable searching skills that they will use throughout their college career.

Memorial Library subscribes to four databases with videos that can be viewed in the classroom, emailed to students, and even embedded in Blackboard.  This gives you the flexibility to view a film or clip in class, or to assign it to your students for homework.  You can ask a librarian for help finding the perfect video for your class or get tips in the Videos LibGuide.  In particular, American History in Video and Ethnographic Video Online are excellent databases for finding videos about a variety of cultures, places, and peoples.

Sample Videos from Memorial Library about Diversity

A libarian can come to your class and assist in finding these and more videos!!!!

Amanda Palmer: The Art of Asking

Maria Bezaitis: The Surprising Need for Strangeness
