In here, you'll find materials used in the library session along with supplemental content to help you learn about book searching strategies and evaluation for preK-K books.

Pre-Class Activity:

  • Look at the books at your table.
  • Open one (or more) of the following links and skim them over for ideas about locating books for ages 3-5:

What's the Point?

PROFESSIONAL GOAL: You'll learn how to apply and reflect upon a variety of strategies to help locate and evaluate children’s books.

ASSIGNMENT GOAL: These strategies will help you to locate preK and K level books for your field placement in this course.

Students will be able to understand and use basic research techniques in order to locate information.

[Intermediate Level]

After this session, you'll be able to:

  • Analyze the weaknesses or strengths in your strategy after examining your search results
  • Apply new investigative methods in order to develop your research abilities
  • Apply various search strategies in order to improve your results for books aimed at a specific level (ages 3-5), for various topics and scenarios

Students will be able to evaluate information, in order to select the best resources for their information needs.

[Intermediate Level]

After this session, you'll be able to:

  • Evaluate the characteristics of picture books in order to determine if you would use them in your assignments or placements (preK and K, or ages 3-5)
